Patricia Boom-Ables

TEFL, B.A.T&I, M. Ed., M.Ed. C&I

Born and raised in the Netherlands, Patricia relocated to Italy when she was 19 and taught ESL while earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Translation and Interpretation. She later moved to the UK where she became certified as a Teacher of English as a Foreign Language. She spent many years teaching in the UK, Germany, Canada and later the US. She eventually went back to school and earned two Master’s Degrees in Education before moving back to Canada. Patricia worked at McKenzie College for about four years, first as an ESL teacher and later as the Language Centre Coordinator, and decided in the winter of 2020 that she wanted to focus exclusively on teaching and that is what she does now!

As a non-native speaker of English and recent immigrant to Canada herself, Patricia easily relates to the challenges some of her students may face while building a new life for themselves and their families. She uses empathy and humour to help her students improve their English so that they can be the best version of themselves, no matter where they are from and what their mother tongue may be.

Adriana Campbell

Adriana has a Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from ILAC International College in Toronto. She also has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the Getúlio Vargas School of Business Administration in São Paulo, Brazil and completed the Cours de Civilisation Française de la Sorbonne from La Sorbonne in Paris, France. Before becoming an ESL teacher, she worked in a variety of roles such as translator and interpreter with CCNB Bathurst, economic development researcher, competitive intelligence analyst, and insurance and airline customer service representative. She taught ESL at McKenzie College in Moncton from 2018 to 2020.

Being an immigrant herself, she knows the importance of being able to communicate well in a language that is not her own, and helping others improve their language skills is what motivated her to become an ESL teacher. She loves languages, traveling and learning about other cultures. She also loves volunteering in her community and was a member of the Leadership Council at First Baptist Church, member of the Parent-School Support Committee at Moncton High School, Board member at Miracles at First Daycare, and President of the Home and School Association at Edith Cavell School.
